Day 3 - Safari

On this day we got up early and out the door to see the animals.  We went to the Maasai Mara national reserve, one of the best safari destinations in the world.  It’s only a short drive from the cultural center.  It was fun to see how our warrior/safari drivers expertly navigated the park.  They are on the phone or the radios constantly, talking in Swahili (I think) to the other drivers in the park, sharing with each other where to go to see the animals the best.  Then they speed off over crazy terrain (I was sure we were stuck several times, but they always managed to get the jeep out) to get us to the animals.  I thought we would have to drive and wait and hunt to see the animals, but they were everywhere!  Massive crowds of giraffes right at the beginning, countless zebras and wildebeest, and wild boars.  We drove up right next to a lion, he was 6-7 feet from our open windows.  Apparently the male Lions are pretty lazy and this one was also hot and tired.  We spotted a couple of cheetahs (Moses called them the Cheetah brothers - he knows them and sees them often) and several Cape buffalo. We also got to see the biggest alligator ever, he looked like a dinosaur, while we were watching hippos in the river (he was watching them too).  We caught a few hyenas mid meal.  My favorite was probably the mom and baby elephant.  They were so fun to watch together.  So many amazing animals.  God’s creations are so incredible!

Also, we all managed not to get eaten while marking our territory, so that was good :)

Shh don’t tell anyone but we may have stepped foot in Tanzania

Toward the end of our safari, we were treated to a sweet surprise : our chef from the guest house brought a whole picnic with a table and chairs and a big beautiful meal out to us on the savannah!
