Civil war re-enactment
I took the kids on a little field trip to the Civil war re-enactment a nearby ranch was putting on last month. They had a lot of fun. Next year we will go earlier in the day and look at the booths and educational workshops. The kids loved the battle, especially Jeremy. The booming cannons were very exciting to them. Alaina loved the 'princesses' in the hoop skirts. It was a good opportunity to spark their interest in the Civil war and talk about why it happened, what it was all about, and learn a little history.
These horses were very brave, the cannons and gunshots didn't seem to scare them at all.
This is the tent of a homeschooling family we found who do this as a family project. The girls learned to sew the authentic period clothing, and the boys learn about the lives of the young soldiers and participate in the mock battle. They camp together as a family and use the same kinds of equipment that would have been used in those times.
The little ones in the family were playing with a toy soldier set and Jeremy and Ethan played with them for a little while.
