Back to Home School

One of our family traditions is to have a special Back to Homeschool Breakfast on the first official day of homeschool every year. I set out school supply surprises for them before they wake up (sometimes I wrap them like gifts but this year I didn't buy wrapping paper in time). This year we had our celebration on Labor day so Dad could have breakfast with us too. I am struggling a little with energy and momentum this year, with baby on the way so soon, but I am excited about our plans for the new year: making a timeline that will go all the way around the upstairs family room and marking it as we learn about various historical figures and events, daily morning walks to get us moving (I need this), and several new outside activities. We are all participating in a co-op this year once a week, where the kids will have science, history, creative writing, and art classes. Shaun will be part of a Teen Leadership class at the co-op also. He is taking a live online debate class using the webcam, and also (hopefully) a theater class (not online) which ends with a performance onstage for families. It should be a fun year.

New crayons, notebooks, binders, art stuff, and activity books.

Jacob has been begging for this book since summer started. He loves logic puzzles.

Alaina's excited to get started already.

Happy Humphries Homeschoolers

Every year I try to get a fun game as part of the surprises. This year it was Lego Minotaurus.
Probably not as educational as last year's (Scrabble), but fun for everyone.

Nothing says 'Welcome back to homeschool' like Smiley face waffles for breakfast.
