This month Shaun and Jacob got to participate in the annual Summit for their Knights of Freedom club. For two days they got to live as knights, make swords and shields, learn virtue lessons, chivalry, respect for women and children (and the 'queen'), train for and act out a battle with the 'forces of evil.' They had a lot of fun and met new friends. They worked hard and played hard. Mom got to dress up and help as a matron and Dad got to play one of the 'bad guys' so they had fun battling him, too. At the end, there was a royal feaste and the boys got knighted for their bravery.

my son loves KofF and the summit, but he'll be too old next year and he's feeling a bit to old for it now.
I've never heard of this. It sounds like a lot of fun and like a lot of good can be learned. More info. ..please. :)
Emily,
Knights of Freedom is a boys club for 8-12 yr olds that a homeschool mom came up with so her boys would have some good social opportunities and a chance to learn what they need to grow into manhood while having fun. They read a biography of a great man from history each month and discuss it as a group, and do activities based on the biography. The boys each get turns to plan and lead activities and also do a 5 minute presentation each month on whatever they want. My boys have done presentations on everything from legos to cooking to computer programming, to just sharing something they have learned or made in homeschool. They also do virtue lessons and learn about modern day chivalry. They get to be called 'Sir Shaun and Sir Jacob' and the advisors are 'Lady so and so.' Their favorite part of course is when they get to practice their swordmanship in battles. The summit is a once a year thing with a bunch of clubs getting together for 2 days of training and a pretend situation where their kingdom gets threatened and they have to defend the queen from bad guys. They have a lot of fun.
